MENTORING
The
life of a CEO or senior executive is often a lonely one. The opportunity
to bounce ideas around or to try out new concepts without raising
concerns amongst one's colleagues or subordinates is a difficult
thing to do. Actions and words can be all too easily misinterpreted
with possibly damaging long-term effects.
But if we are to get the best from ourselves and push the business
to its limits then we have to be brave enough to float new ideas,
talk through tough issues, or explore new concepts but in a relatively
safe and risk free environment. This is made possible through a
personal mentoring programme at a senior and very confidential level.
Theories can be explored and discussed with the mentor, who will
be able to share his or her personal and business experiences with
the executive in complete confidence. This can help provide the
answer or suggest an alternative course of action. In this way risks
can be minimised and the executive gains from this shared experience
before committing to a course of action that may have far reaching
consequences.
In addition,
young executives who are being groomed for future "stardom"
may well benefit from a personal mentor. The mentor, who is permanently
assigned to the executive for a defined period of time, becomes
part of his/her close knit support team and is available at all
times (either in person or on the telephone) to offer advice and
counselling as required. If you think you could benefit from a mentoring
programme for one or more of your executives please Contact

LAUNCHING NEW PRODUCTS
A major frustration for many CEO's is that new products take too
long to bring to the marketplace.
For many established businesses the product portfolio has had such
a positive edge over its competitors that it has remained largely
unchanged for years.
Previously uncompetitive companies however, are now making serious
inroads into their markets, with products, which are superior in
price or performance or both.
With the move towards single or limited range sourcing there is
a danger that companies, which are not in the front rank, will no
longer be included in their client's Approved Lists of suppliers.
Not only does this bring an immediate impact on sales and profits
it also means that companies are no longer able to participate in
their clients development programmes and are, therefore, in danger
of falling behind.
Marlborough fox consultants will examine:
- the status
of current new product developments
- review related
organisational structure, together with management and budgetary
controls
- historical
investment in longer term R&D
- the organisation's
quality culture
- staff training
- use of information
technology
Conclusions
will usually be presented at the end of this first stage review
with recommendations for action.
